ON THE FIRST NIGHT OF CHRISTMAS...

The holiday season is different this year. Good different. Extra special different. Not just because it is the Little One's first, but because we've decided to truly celebrate the season and not just prepare for a couple of big days at the end of the month. Over the years we have mixed in a few holiday doings each year, but nothing consistent except for family gatherings and gift exchanges. There are so many other wonderful ways to celebrate each other and all of the blessings that we have and there is no time like the present to start doing just that.

Over the next few weeks we will share the special ways we are making memories this season. More ideas are welcome, so please pass them along.

On the first day of Christmas our little family…..took a road trip to New Jersey.

This was not just any road trip however. For starters, it was the Little One's first trek out of Rhode Island. As we passed a sign welcoming us to Connecticut The Husband called out, "Woohoo! Two states down. Forty-eight to go!" I wish I could say that the Little One laughed or smiled in response, but he was fast asleep before we even left Rhody. In fact, the champ slept all the way to our destination more than 150 miles away. It was as if he read our minds and got the weekend off to a good start with a long snooze.

Once we arrived the weekend was all about friends, food and fun. Aren't all holidays? This particular visit was special because we attended the Little One's first Hanukkah party. As we learned that night from a retelling of the Hanukkah story, miracles sometimes happen when we least expect them. Those words came straight from the mouth of our party hostess, Denise. She had tears in her eyes and choked up as the words came out. I stood across the room listening and wiping off my own tears. It was Denise who, a year and a half ago predicted that within one year we'd be sharing our own good news about the coming of our Little One. And there he was, sitting on his daddy's lap a few feet from she and her husband as they lit the menorah.

As the night went on we talked and laughed and ate, ate, ate. The next day was more of the same. It was the perfect weekend to kick off the holiday season. Nothing fancy, but very fulfilling. Just the way we like it.
